Britten-Norman’s Islander is a UK manufacturing success story; operational in over 120 countries and manifested itself over 55 years as one of aviation’s most versatile platforms. A simple, yet effective design, has provided the backbone to governments and communities for decades. Research & development continue to be the backbone of the platform, allowing the incorporation of modifications and state-of-the-art technology.
The Britten-Norman Islander is a high-wing, twin-engine 10-seat monoplane. Several Islander variants are currently available:
BN 2B-26 with 260 hp & BN 2B-20 with 300 hp, both Lycoming Piston engines
BN 2T with 320 shp & BN 2T-4S with 400 shp, both Rolls Royce turboprop engines
Islanders are configurable for passenger operation, cargo paratrooper, medical evacuation and other simpler missions, whereas The Defender 4000 finds its role in more sophisticated mission environments.
The Defender’s prime roles include intelligence, counter-terrorism, surveillance, reconnaissance, maritime patrol and special missions. With its extended loiter and low noise signature, this is the aircraft of choice for covert operations.
The aircraft is designed specifically to incorporate new technologies easily and affordably. Twin Rolls Royce turboprops allow deployment capability safely in the urban environment as well as in harsh operating conditions.
Aircraft and spare parts are being produced on two sides in Southern England. Customer Service Hotline and Technical Library are available to clientele.
The table below shows the performance comparison between the Islander BN2B-26, BN2B-20, BN2T and BN2T-4S models.

Missions
Aerial Survey & Environmental
The aircraft’s slow speed handling, extreme stability, high wing design giving near 360-degree visibility, endurance and long-range capability make it an ideal platform for aerial survey operations, where close monitoring and precise imaging are required. The aircraft can carry a large range of specialist instrumentation including Synthetic Aperture Radar with change detection, large format mapping, Hyperspectral analysis, LIDAR, material detection and all sizes of vertical and oblique survey cameras.
Real-time IP data links enable quick and secure transfer of information to ground research teams for analysis. Spray pod options are available for immediate deployment of dispersants.

Air Ambulance
The aircraft’s extended cabin can be configured to carry three fitted stretchers and a medical team or Lifeport™ system.
The large sliding access door and the aircraft’s modular design allow a quick mission setup, to carry evacuate patients, bring medical aid and provide disaster relief and humanitarian aid.
ISAR
The aircraft is a highly effective and versatile tactical ISAR aircraft, giving strategic, operational and tactical commanders enhanced situational awareness of complex intelligence operations. The aircraft can be configured for surveillance roles using EO/IR sensors, radars, BLOS and LOS for secure IP data links and tactical communications, SIGINT systems and bespoke (customer-specified) technology.
Underwing stores can be used for resupply pods to personnel in hostile environments, including emergency medical equipment.
