Aurigny orders its second Dornier 228

August 3 2016

Aurigny has placed a firm order with manufacturer RUAG for a second Dornier 228 aircraft. Aurigny took delivery of its first new Dornier, registered as G-OAUR, ahead of schedule in December 2015, and it has been used commercially since late January. The second aircraft will be delivered to Aurigny in the third quarter of 2017.

Mark Darby, the CEO of Aurigny, says: “Our new Dornier 228 is being used extensively on the Alderney, Southampton and Dinard routes and is delivering exactly what we require of it. Importantly, it’s popular with both our pilots and our passengers. I’m delighted to confirm that an order for a second Dornier 228 has been placed with RUAG and the delivery of the aircraft next year will enhance our smaller aircraft fleet.”

Volker Wallrodt, the Senior Vice President of Business Jets, Do228s & Components at RUAG Aviation says: “For passengers, the Dornier is roomy, comfortable and quiet and it delivers a superior flight experience. The aircraft is well-suited to the particular challenges of flying routes to and from the Channel Islands, where weather conditions can be challenging. The Dornier’s short take-off and landing (STOL) and high crosswind capabilities make it ideal for use into and out of Alderney, which has a relatively short runway that is prone to strong crosswinds. On a logistics level, the increased speed of the 19-seater twin turboprop significantly shortens flight times.”

Aurigny’s second new Dornier will feature a new, digital auto pilot system developed by RUAG. The aircraft will be built at the company’s factory in Oberpfaffenhofen, near Munich, in Bavaria.
